Managers in Training Program


We're a large company with over 1,000 employees and there are a lot of buried gems here. These are individuals who aspire to be managers but somehow get overlooked. We've selected a team to tackle an issue that we're facing right now as part of a newly formed Manager in Training (MIT) program.

The first team includes Jackie Webster from Customer Service, Jennifer James from the HR Department, Kimberly Wengle from Service Dispatch, Chris McCully from IT, Kristen Stahl from our Alarm Sales Install Administration and Liese Pletcher from our Medical Monitoring Warehouse.

The end result for the program is to give Guardian employees a preview of what it will be like to be a manager and allows the company to review the skill set and performance of these potential managers. We'll also expose these employees to other facets of the company, increase their business acumen and groom our leaders for the next 10 to 15 years.

2012 Free Press Marathon Guardian Alarm Relay Team


For the first time, Guardian Alarm has sponsored it's own Marathon relay team, the Guardian Dynamos. The team includes captain Trish Cantwell, David Hasse, Jenny Osebold, Denver Rochon and Sherry Droze. They ran the 2012 Free Press Marathon in Detroit and Windsor.

Guardian Alarm Welcomes Metropolitan Detroit Fire Inspectors

Guardian Alarm Company welcomed the members of the Metropolitan Detroit Fire Inspectors Society last week. Guardian hosted the organization’s November meeting which included presentations by Guardian management and a tour of Guardian’s Monitoring Station.

Guardian Alarm General Manager, Karen Majeske said, “We were very excited to have the fire inspectors from a number of Southeastern Michigan communities here at our headquarters. Their meetings are a great way to exchange fire industry information and it gave us the opportunity to demonstrate first hand the services, equipment and facilities Guardian has.”


Guardian Alarm offers commercial grade fire security installation and service of sprinkler supervisory and waterflow signaling systems. The company also offers monitored smoke, heat and temperature sensors for both businesses and homes.

John Flores, Guardian Alarm’s Customer Service Manager, presented the group with the company’s commercial and residential fire alarm monitoring procedures and policies. The day ended with a walk-through tour of Guardian Alarm’s UL certified and FM approved Monitoring Station.

“Maintaining a close relationship with local law enforcement and fire safety officials is just one of the many ways Guardian strives to provide our customers with the best service in the industry,” explained Flores.

Smoke Detectors by Great Alarm Installer

Guardian Alarm installed several new smoke detectors in our house. We are very pleased with the work Kevin Gilson performed installing these smoke detectors. He was quite professional in his work habits & interaction with us.

Later, we discovered the real sign of the care he took when we had checked the attic on some other work that was being done. When someone pays attention to wiring being neat & well finished in an area where most people would likely never look, you know he has taken the same care throughout the whole job.

Battle Creek Customer Raves "Guardian Alarm is Amazing!"


“Our Battle Creek store was broken into Saturday night. We were closed the entire day, since we still didn't have electricity.  I called Guardian Alarm to make sure our back-up battery was giving a signal and it was. At 2am, Guardian called saying they dispatched the police. Someone had thrown a rock through the front window & door. The siren went off and they ran.  Thank God for Guardian!  They acted so fast in dispatching the police.  Fortunately, the burglars didn't get away with anything. Guardian is amazing!”

Kristen Miller: Guardian Alarm Employee of the Month June 2012

As a Customer Service Rep it is important to understand as far as customers are concerned we (the person they are speaking to at the moment) are the company. This is not a burden, but the core of our job. We hold in your hands the power to keep customers coming back! Our Guardian Minimum is engrained in doing the best for our customers and putting them before the team and our own personal needs. Being able to switch your schedule at a moments notice is a very important attribute of a CSR in a 24 hours department. Kristen Miller is someone who is willing to stay over, come in early, or even switch around her weekends off to help customer service during staffing shortages. She has a go with the flow personality and is able to switch between slow and heavy activity in a moments notice. She is able to buckle down and concentrate on the customers issues and get them on and off the phone while still being a good customer service representative.


Kristen is a team player; helping anyone in need as well as helping supervision to get new employees trained to take incoming phone calls. She is good at explaining Guardian’s procedures and reasoning behind doing certain functions that allows anyone who is sitting with her to be able to follow along with what she is doing and why. Kristen is a true ambassador for Guardian. She always speaks highly of Guardian Alarm and believes in the products and services we offer. She believes in fixing things and moving on to the next thing, not dwelling on the negative or mistakes. She is very receptive and accepts new ideas and suggestions. Kristen receives feedback positively and you are able to see an immediate alteration with her trying to take your wisdom and advice and receive it.  


With her 7 years of experience with Guardian, she brings not only a wealth of knowledge and experience but also a can-do attitude to her team. Positive behavior and reactions are good to have when we deal with different kinds of personalities all day with the different kinds of customers that we get daily. Her supervision team appreciates her flexibility with her scheduling as well as her easy going personality. She for the most part does not tell us "no." It is always "yes" with no complaining.

Derek Prisbylla, New Residential Sales Manager

We are thrilled to announce the promotion of Derek Prisbylla to Residential Sales Manager for Guardian Alarm’s Michigan operations.  He first joined the company in 1996 and has served as both a Residential and Commercial Sales Security Specialist. 

Derek brings a wealth of sales experience to his new role and is an eight time Security Network of America Grand Champion.  We look forward to Derek's ability to achieve the highest sales targets in his new role as our Residential Sales Manager.

Avalene Durel: July Customer Service Rep. of the Month

There is something to be said about someone who takes pride in their appearance--even when wearing a uniform. Some people do not like the uniform because they feel there are not many ways to dress it up or accentuate their personal style, but it can be done and Avalene Durel is an example of a person who stands out in her Guardian Uniform from head to toe. She even expresses her own personal style in a variety of ways.

Avalene is not only known for her neat appearance but also her amount of experience and knowledge she brings to the table in Customer Service. She has been with Guardian for over 10 years now and has become a lead investigator on any trouble signal that hits her screen. She can personally be relied on to follow up with Fire Departments to make sure businesses are compliant with Michigan Fire codes and that the alarm is operable and working. Not only can she be counted on to follow up on trouble accounts, she also is one of our lead Integrated Security operators, helping us get a number of dayshift reps trained to be able to run this area solo. Avalene brings her extensive attention to detail to Integrated Security and makes sure she investigates any activity.

Guardian Alarm 2012 Red Cross Blood Drive Another Success

For years Guardian employees have donated to the Red Cross during the company's Annual Blood Drive. This year was another great success! Special thanks go to the Pierce Family for generously hosting and our terrific HR department for organizing and running the event. Management also cooked and served breakfast and lunch for the employees who donated blood.

The following is a letter we received from the Red Cross of Southeastern Michigan: "Thank you for all of your help with the blood drive yesterday. I hope you know how much we value your support and how much we appreciate all your hard work. The American Red Cross Blood Services staff extends their heartfelt appreciation for your efforts on behalf of the many patients whose lives depend on the availability of blood products in our community. Coordinating an American Red Cross blood drive - and knowing you're responsible for saving so many lives - makes you an invaluable contributor in our community. The results of your blood drive on June 13, 2012 are as follows: Blood Drive Goal: 31 34 Persons successfully donated one unit of whole blood 4 People gave double reds 5 First time donors!!! 38 Units of lifesaving blood were collected, giving as many as 114 hospital patients a chance to once again enjoy good health. Thank you very much for all your effort and support! We could not provide the necessary blood products to our area patients without your help. You are a true community lifesaver! May 2012 Customer Service Rep of the Month

At Guardian Alarm “good customer service is good business!” We have one of the most unique customer service teams because there is always someone here to answer the phone professionally 24/7. We also have one of the friendliest, warmest people in our inbound area. Corrine Toney is a great asset to customer service as she does a good job of satisfying the customers 100% of the time with that genuinely warm personality. She has a kind demeanor and her communication skills are excellent. Corrine’s personality brings out the best in both our internal and external guest. She makes the angriest customers calm and reels them back in with her charm. Any customer that deals with her usually calls back in and asks for her again, because they know she is honest and looking out for their best interest.
